Former GOP Candidate Arrested Over Stealing Ballots

A former Republican congressional candidate has been arrested in Indiana for stealing votes.
Although the votes were only test ballots, Larry L. Savage Jr. went on social media to allege that the Indiana vote count system was rigged.
He is alleged to have written “”3 ballots short!!! lol” and “Dontvtake [sic] anything,” on a Facebook live post, just hours after stuffing two test ballots into his sweatshirt pocket at the Madison County Government Center, police said.
Officers in Madison County arrested and charged Savage on Tuesday.
Savage was a candidate in the Indiana Fifth District Republican primary earlier this year.
He was charged with theft and destroying or misplacing a ballot. He has been released on a $500 cash bond.
Newsweek sought email comment from Savage through his email account and through the Larry L Savage Jr. for Congress District 5 Facebook page on Wednesday.
The Facebook page states that he has been married for 25 years and has three adult children. He is a keen supporter of Donald Trump and his Congressional Facebook page shows him wearing a Trump hat and displaying a Trump lawn sign.
The alleged ballot theft occurred on Oct. 3 during testing of voting machines at the Madison County Government Center, according to a statement by Indiana state police.
Members of the public were invited to witness the testing and to feed test ballots through the voting machines.
The test ballots included real candidate names. After testing, election officials found that a Republican ballot and one write-in ballot were missing.
Officials then reviewed security footage, which was streamed on the internet, which showed Savage handling two ballots.
In the footage, which included audio, he could be heard telling an election official that the ballots he is holding are “absolutely, totally real ballots,” Fox 59 in Indiana reported.
He allegedly then looks around the room and puts the two ballots in his sweatshirt pocket.
Savage then complains to a woman beside him that it’s a “f***ed up count.” The woman was live streaming the event on Facebook.
As he was leaving the center, Savage allegedly showed the two ballots to another man before driving home.
He then joined the woman’s Facebook Live stream. After someone wrote: “The cheating has started,” Savage allegedly added the comments: “3 ballots short!!! lol” and “Dontvtake [sic] anything.”
Indiana state police said in a statement that it obtained a search warrant for his car and house and then drove to his home at about 3 p.m. that day.
As they were reading the search warrant, Savage allegedly commented: “You talking about the ballot the lady told me I could take. I got the paper you’re talking about. I just rolled it up and put it in my pocket. I wasn’t trying to steal from nobody.”
He then showed them the ballots in the back of his Honda Civic.
Savage allegedly told the police: “This is all political, bulls*** is all it is.”
