HANOI, July 29 (Xinhua) — Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in the first seven months of this year went up by 4.12 percent year-on-year, as the country’s core inflation rose 2.73 percent, according to data released by the General Statistics Office on Monday.
Compared to June, the index grew by 0.48 percent in July, contributed by increases of domestic gasoline prices, domestic electricity demand and adjusted health insurance premiums following the new base salary, said the office.
In July, price hikes were reported in 10 out of the 11 items in the calculation basket.
Items posting the most significant price hikes this month included education with an 8-percent increase, commodities and other series with a 6.93-percent increase and transport with a 4.4-percent increase.
Vietnam has set the target of keeping the CPI for this year at 4-4.5 percent. ■
